Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan ist wohl einer der erfolgreichsten Exportschlager Pakistans: Seine Cassetten füllen (in sehr ungleichmäßiger Qualität) ganze Regale beim Gemüsehändler um die Ecke. Den mystischen Qawwali-Gesang hat Nusrat um ein paar neue Elemente bereichert und mit seiner markant-kräftigen Stimme weltweit populär gemacht - der Elvis der Sufis irgendwie. Die vorliegende Liveaufnahme aus London 1989 (zwei volle CDs von einem Konzert zeigen die Energie) präsentiert traditionelle Quawalis, die in puren Ragas gesetzt sind und saubere Akrobatik wie Sargams (schnelle Improvisationen auf den Notennamen) und rhythmische Ausflüge und Wechsel zeigen. Gute Zusammenstellung für alle, die noch nicht beim Gemüsehändler zugeschlagen haben. - Ingo Anhenn

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (1948 – 1997) was a world renowned Pakistani singer of Qawwali, the devotional music of the Sufis. Considered one of the greatest singers ever recorded, he possessed an extraordinary range of vocal abilities and could perform at a high level of intensity for several hours. Extending the 600-year old Qawwali tradition of his family, Khan is widely credited with introducing Qawwali music to international audiences. He is popularly known as "Shahenshah-e-Qawwali", meaning "The King of Kings of Qawwali". He released movie scores and albums in Europe, India, Japan, Pakistan, and the USA and also engaged in collaborations and experiments with Western musicians, becoming a well-known world music artist. He toured extensively, performing in over 40 countries. In 1995 he received the UNESCO Music Prize.
