DHOLAK

 

The Dholak is a very popular double-headed drum from the North Indian folk music. The difference in diameter between the bass-head and the high-tuned head is relatively little. To get more weight on it and therefore a more powerful bass-sound the bass head is prepared with a special paste. In difference to most Indian drums the Dholak has simple smooth heads on both sides so she can be played with the India typical finger-strike technique, but similar to most of the African and South American drums with the whole hand. The heads are tuned with a cotton-cord that goes through both heads and movable metal-rings. Length: 45 cm, Diameter: 25 cm Please click on an image to have a closer look.
