BAMBOO

Most of the time travelling with a male or female tanpura is not much fun. The pumpkin body is voluminous, bulky, and what is more, very fragile. Therefore, various new tanpura types were developed, distinguishing themselves by a compact design and a more robust construction, however, offering the same sound quality than traditional models. An entirely new design where neck and body are not separate anymore proved to be a success. Instead the instrument consists of one single long bamboo body, covered with a wooden sound board. The string length is that of a traditional tanpura, but the total length, width and depth are considerably reduced.
